Conquering NYC One Meal at a Time

About

GOURMAND:

1: one who is excessively fond of eating and drinking

2: one who is heartily interested in good food and drink

ABOUT GOURMAND D NYC: Eating is not merely a means of survival for me but an event that I am lucky enough to indulge in 2-3 times per day in the best city in the world.  My goal is to share those experiences with friends and hopefully help others find the best of the best in this city from food trucks to Michelin Star restaurants.

ABOUT ME: So this is me… I work for an emerging media company buying and planning online advertising for large clients. After working on multiple online advertising campaigns and eating at some of the best restaurants in NY I figured it was time to start my own campaign of sorts.  I will be sharing food stories, restaurant reviews and homemade recipes.

EMAIL ME!  Need a restaurant suggestion? Have a recipe or restaurant I should try?  Let me know and I promise to write about it.

    Hey,

So if you’d like some feedback please read on. First, I know how hard it is to do a food blog as I’ve seen various friends attempt it. I think your FB route is a good way of getting your name out there. The hardest part is getting people aware of your blog so good job.

    1) First where is the email address people can write to you about? This comment box is ok, but it requires people to fill out stuff and some (including myself) get annoyed at it. I’d rather have a direct link to an email address. I almost didn’t write back due to having to fill this out.

    2) Where is your passion? You are a supposed food lover which is why you started this, but I don’t see any passion in what you write. It’s almost monotone with a hint of personality.

    3) which leads me to the third point. Where are you in this? I don’t see any of you in here. If I wanted to read about food reviews with not much personality I’d go to the NYtimes or other established places. I read a blog to get a hint of someones personality mixed in with the food. it makes it fun and exciting.

    4) what is your angle here? So it doesn’t seem like you are covering any spot specifically? Are you only doing high class? Drunk food spots? Hidden delights? Like what kind of reader are you trying to attract here?

    5) Your rating system…I read through a number of them and they all had 4′s and above…your rating system needs to change or be more comprehensive. I understand you may be biased, so maybe you should give a few comparables. That way the reader can understand what you are referring to instead of just taking your biased view that it’s a 4.

      Hey There,

Thank you for the feedback. The need to register is to help prevent the large amount of spam I receive. You are right I am missing a link straight to email link and I will include that in the About page and in my signature moving forward on every post. It seems like 2, 3 and 4 all refer to the same thing – what the blog is and what its supposed to be about. I am in the early stages of developing this site and over time i think my personality will come out through. I will pay close attention to making sure that every post is authentic. The angle is that I am part of the poverty elite. All meals that are paid for on corporate cards are high class and all spots I go to on my own dollar are more economical.

The overall message that I interpreted from all of your comments combined is that I need to spend more time thinking about the user experience. Thanks for the feedback. If you don’t mind me asking what are a few of your favorite food blogs? Do you have a blog?

DBlock–Great looking site and interesting screen name. Are you a Dblock fan?? I have known the Yonkers trio and there platinum producer Dame Grease for some time.

I was wondering if you cover any of the amazing restaurants the outter-boroughs have to offer. For example the Bronx has some of the best authentic Italian offered in NYC. Ann and Tony’s is an amazing restaurant on Arthur Avenue with over 3 generations of tradition behind it.

There is an interesting void in the market that this blog could definitely fill.

    Thanks,
    Tom Brown

      Hey Tom,

Thanks for the post. DBlock is actually just a play on my name and everyone has always played the “this is DBlock” theme song for me so I am familiar with their music. I usually don’t cover the outer boroughs. I live in Manhattan and most of my friends don’t like leaving the city. Occassionally I will cover a restaurant if I can get there. Let me know if you ever want to write a guest post on an outer borough favorite.

      Thanks for the feedback!
